Rangeley Weekend
The Rangeley Lakes area is definitely special. With a long history of outdoor recreation and a wide variety of ways to enjoy the land, paddling is just one of the great things to do in the area.
This past weekend we were lucky to be spending a few days and nights in the area and found some time to sneak away for some water time. The higher elevation definitely keeps the temps of the air and water a bit cooler than central Maine and the winds were strong during our entire visit.
While we didn't have proper gear and ample time to get lots of paddling in, we did manage two short paddling trips and that was enough to intrigue and inspire us to plan a return visit focused solely on paddling. For our next trip we'll paddle the 32 mile perimeter and get a close up view of this special lake.
But, the real paddling beauty of this area is not just Rangeley Lake, it's the history of Maine Guides, the collection of six large lakes that make up the area and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail that connects them all. In an upcoming blog post I will dive deeper into each of the Rangeley Lakes and what makes them so special.
